Design, Deadlines & Doom-Scrolling: The Life of a Creative

I’ve been in the creative industry for over 10 years, starting with a degree in Illustration. Yep, I’m the one who spends a bit too much time in Adobe Creative Suite and Procreate. Like many graduates, I found myself struggling to figure out where I fit in after uni. It wasn’t until 2020 that I made the official switch to marketing, thanks to an old boss who took a chance on me. From there, I moved on to Everlast Gyms, where I spent a few years managing social media, designing campaigns, handling website management, and juggling more than I’d like to admit.
Now, I’m freelancing at Notch Creative, and I’m loving the journey.

As an illustrator, I've always loved creating stories with my work. That’s what I do now too, whether it’s designing a visual, brainstorming a strategy, or crafting the perfect email, I have to understand the whole picture before I start. I want to know how all the pieces fit together before diving in, and that’s how I approach everything.

"I think of creativity as storytelling, where every little detail matters."

I get completely absorbed when I’m working on something exciting. It’s that feeling where I forget to eat, skip checking the clock, and suddenly I’m thinking “wait, what time is it?” But I love it! It means I’m in the zone, creating something that’s exciting to me. And if I get stuck? I’ll watch a ton of “how-to” guides until I figure it out. Learning new things is part of the fun.

When there’s pressure, that’s when I really thrive. Tight deadlines, high expectations? I love it. It fuels my creativity. There’s nothing quite like that moment when the pressure’s on, and I’m pulling everything together in the final stretch. Creativity and deadlines? Truly I think they’re a match made in heaven.

I’ve always been the artsy one drawing, painting, creating since I was a kid. I even won a school art competition at the age of five (proud moment). But it wasn’t until college that I really found my passion for Illustration. It was a tutor who suggested I dive into it, and from there, everything just clicked. Now, that creativity is something I apply to all my projects.

"Stuck in a creative block? I’ll probably be doom-scrolling until inspiration hits."

We all hit creative blocks sometimes. So, when that happens, I get a bit lost in the internet. I’ll scroll through random stuff until something catches my eye and sparks an idea. Inspiration comes from unexpected places, and I’m always open to letting it find me.

A Few Fun Facts

  • You might not expect it, but I can solve a Rubik’s Cube and juggle.

  • The only caffeine I get is from my one true love Watermelon Redbull (I’m open to sponsors)

  • My unique drawing talent is definitely the ability to draw realistic food on my trusty 7 year old iPadPro (Still going strong)

  • I used to compete in Ballroom and Latin Dancing, totally niche right?

Being part of Notch Creative’s team is really exciting. We’re building something new from the ground up, and that’s where the magic happens. The collaborative energy and unique perspectives everyone brings to the table is what makes us stand out. I love that we’re pushing boundaries and growing together, it’s an incredible feeling.
