A Creative at the Starting Line: Finding My Feet at Notch.
Graduating with a degree in Fashion Image and Styling (alongside Fashion Media and Promotion) in July 2024 marked a huge chapter in my life closing – and an even bigger one beginning. Like many creative graduates, I left university with a box full of skills: photography, styling, illustration, graphic design. All things I loved. But no clear idea what I actually wanted to do with them.
It’s a strange feeling, isn’t it? Being full of creative energy, but unsure where to place it.
Instead of throwing myself headfirst into the industry, hoping to land on my feet (and not flat on my arse), I decided to slow down. I wanted to take the time to figure out not just what I could do – but what I should do. Where my creativity feels the most natural, the most exciting. Where I could explore, learn, and grow without losing the fun of it all.
That’s when I found myself stepping into my “seeker era”.
It’s an era of discovery. Of not needing to have it all figured out yet. Of chasing inspiration through travel, new people, and unfamiliar places. Of diving deeper into my passions – especially photography, illustration, and styling – and figuring out how they could all work together in ways that feel true to me.
And honestly? Landing at Notch as a Junior Creative Assistant couldn’t have come at a better time.
Notch has given me space to experiment. To try new things. To work alongside brilliant creatives who don’t expect me to have it all figured out, but who encourage me to explore the possibilities. It’s the kind of environment where you’re trusted with responsibility but also supported while you’re learning.
Where creativity isn’t just a buzzword – it’s baked into everything we do.
What I’ve realised in just a short time is that starting small isn’t playing it safe – it’s setting a strong foundation. Instead of rushing into something that didn’t feel right, I’ve found a place that allows me to stretch my skills and shape my creative identity at the same time.
I don’t know exactly where this path will take me yet. But I do know that I’m walking it with more confidence, more clarity, and a lot more curiosity than before. And for now, that feels more than enough.
Fun Facts About Me:
Watercolours were my first creative love, all thanks to my Grandpa. He was my original muse - the one who got me hooked on embracing my creativity.
“Mollie with an i-e” has basically become my catchphrase at this point - I’ve said it so many times it might as well be my tagline. Honestly, I’ve joked about getting it tattooed… but it’s starting to feel less like a joke.
I’d definitely call myself a spontaneous person - I tend to follow my heart and figure out the rest later. Take this January, for example: I decided Camp America sounded like a bit of me, and now, somehow, I’m off to Miami in less than a month to spend the summer as a Camp Photographer.
Music is my ultimate remedy. Whether I’m feeling down, on top of the world, getting ready for a night out, or just searching for that spark of inspiration, the speaker’s on. There’s nothing that lifts my soul and comforts me quite like a song that hits just right.
Into this kind of thing? So are we.
